A strategic thought partner to our site management team and global leads, I create and manage programs that enable Googlers to thrive and achieve business goals, develop inclusive events, build partnerships with cross-functional teams and the broader local community, and scale opportunities for efficiency and process improvements across Google data centers.
Core work:
Lead site-wide internal communications ensuring consistency and tailoring voice, tone, and style to the audience and business goals while allowing for Googleyness and creativity
Lead local community affairs programming, including community grants program, community service volunteer projects, and external events such as the Google Kids Robotics Workshop, in partnership with internal teams and the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation. Developed best practices for Google data centers to host this annual weekend event and managed all local event logistics, vendors, volunteers, and internal and external communications, including a promotional video and earned local media placements.
Advise and partner with Site Leads and Area Lead to develop site and regional strategies, including culture programming, identifying growth and leadership opportunities, and strategically aligning communications, systems, and structures to best support our teams
Lead employee engagement and DEI initiatives at the site, such as Employee Resource Groups, GoogleServe, Giving Week, Bike to Work Day, Mental Health & Wellbeing Month, and Site Strategy Committee, composed of Googlers representing individual site teams, to identify focus areas and strategies to improve and support a healthy site culture
Cultural ambassador for the site, managing a budget of over $150,000 distributed across 18 different cost centers; responsible for planning, promoting, and executing inclusive events that facilitate team building, while adhering to Google policies and procedures
Notable Programs and Projects
Global Communications Lead for Global Data Centers (GDC) Perf Working Group - Led global communications for Global Data Centers Perf with feedback consistently strong-positive; instrumental in creating PA-wide global executive communications strategy and plan, including collaborating with the leadership team, People Ops and GDC DEI team, and establishing new communications structure that was also adopted by cross-org working groups, impacting 4,000+ data center Googlers.
Global Program & Communications Manager, Data Center Golden Utility Belt Award - Designed program branding and site promotions package, revamping the sites pages, implementing newsletter communication tool, and building a communications plan and strategy that resulted in org-wide amplification, including highlights in VP’s monthly video and the Global Server Operations monthly newsletter. Built nomination participation dashboard and managed award logistics, including distribution of non-cash spot bonuses, trophies, and swag to over 50 global award winners. Efforts in 2023 resulted in a 16% increase in nominations and over $30,000 in budgetary savings.
Global Program & Communications Manager, Data Center Financial Wellness Series - Independently developed, scaled, and launched virtual 4-part series for 2,300 data center Googlers 100% on-time, within scope, and under budget, with an average satisfaction of 88.5%. Drove further program development including visual and written comms, program charter, recruited and oversaw program logistics team, and acquired budget approval and program sponsorship by lelamcknight@, GDC / CSCO Global Lead and Chief Mental Health and Well-Being Advisor. Launched 10 additional sessions with a 42% increase in enrollments and average satisfaction of 88.6%.
Global Communications Lead, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Event Communications Workstream - Developed and streamlined communications to the global SRE community (4,000+ Googlers) for week-long event. Wrote, designed, and distributed daily newsletters, working cross-functionally with the SRE Comms, Cloud Communications, and Daily Insider editorial team to develop featured Daily Insider article, “SRE Turns 20!”
Global Communications SME, go/ABP Communications Committee - Contribute to the greater Global administrative communications plan and strategy by providing SME consultation on best practices, content development, and maintenance of the internal website, including updates to design and user experience and ongoing content management ensuring streamlined communications to the at-large administrative community.
